Introduction and welcome

Welcome to Martinborough Manor Food Preservation Course. Whether you are a complete newbie or an old hand, experienced at all types of home food preservation or somewhere in between, this on-line course will provide valuable, current research-based information allowing you to prepare safe, home-preserved food for you and your family. The main aim of food preservation is to increase the shelf-life of a food while still keeping it safe. The lessons in this course will demonstrate and describe the proper methods, equipment and research-based guidelines that are recommended for safely preserving food at home. After completion of the course you will:

  • Increase your knowledge and confidence in water bath and pressure canning, freezing, pickling and drying techniques

  • Identify the main differences between acid and non-acid foods and why the processing of these foods are different

This course is designed to be self-paced which means you can proceed through the lessons at any time that it is convenient for you. There are several lessons each of which includes a video presentation and additional resources. You may take the lessons in any order.  There will be recipes for you to print off and keep.

As a student of this course, you can, for the lifetime of the course email me with any problem pertaining to preserving and I will endeavor to help you.  I may be able to answer by email or I may have to set up a zoom session to work out what you are doing.

You will also receive a new recipe once a fortnight, for the life of the course.  You will also be able to access more units as they are added.  Growing the vegetables you want to be able to preserve will be added late 2022/early 2023

So, begin the course by watching the video (just click the Next button) and start to think about your experience with preserving food.
