Topic 2 Review of basic algebra

In order to be able to apply mathematics to any discipline, it is necessary to use symbols to represent physical quantities.  Then we use Algebra to manipulate these symbols.  We need to be able to manipulate the symbols, in order that we develop the necessary foundation to use techniques later in the course, and in other courses, and in engineering itself.
